The Eastlink tollway was financed, designed, and constructed by ConnectEast, which continues to operate the motorway. The Thiess John Holland Joint Venture led the Design & Construct (D&C) contract, with United Group Infrastructure responsible for mechanical and electrical systems.

Project Overview

Eastlink is Melbourne’s largest tollway, spanning 39 kilometres and featuring twin 1.6-kilometer tunnels, 17 interchanges, 88 bridges, and intelligent transport systems to enhance traffic flow, reliability, and road safety.

 

Designed to reduce congestion in Melbourne’s east and southeast, this freeway-standard route improves connectivity between key economic and residential zones, providing faster travel times and improved logistics efficiency. The tollway officially opened to traffic on 29 June 2008.
