CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS
Oil and Gas
INPEX Ichthys Onshore LNG
location
Darwin, Northern Territory
project value
AUD $60 billion
contract
Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC), Joint Venture (JV)
The project was delivered under an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract led by the JKC Australia LNG (JKC) Joint Venture, comprising JGC Corporation, KBR, and Chiyoda Corporation. JKC managed scopes for engineering, procurement, and construction of the onshore LNG plant and associated infrastructure.

Project Overview
The Ichthys LNG Project is one of the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) developments, integrating offshore gas extraction, subsea transportation, and onshore processing to produce and export LNG, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and condensate. The facility delivers 8.9 million tonnes of LNG and 1.6 million tonnes of LPG annually, along with up to 100,000 barrels of condensate per day at peak production.
The project involved complex offshore procurement of equipment for installation and commissioning across significant onshore infrastructures — LNG processing trains, cryogenic tanks, combined cycle steam and gas, fired turbine power stations, marine export wharves and offloading facilities, and all associated underground infrastructure including telecommunications and high-voltage cabling — to transport LNG from offshore processing facilities through an 890‑kilometre subsea pipeline to onshore processing facilities near Darwin, Northern Territory, where the LNG is subsequently shipped for export to global energy markets.
The project's execution demanded rigorous oversight of quality and safety, efficient management of international supply chains, and the optimisation of subcontractor quality and completions processes to ensure compliance, reduce inefficiencies, and meet delivery targets.
